You Can Go Further
Like most sports, there are various different levels of this sport. You can compete at just club level here on our track, or you can travel away and compete on one of the twenty odd tracks throughout New Zealand. Should you be good enough then you may get to compete overseas in the World Championship Events. Many famous racing drivers such as Michael Schumacher, Scott Dixon, Greg Murphy and Craig Baird to name only a few, began their careers in Kart Racing.
Junior Karting
Children may play Rugby, Cricket, Netball or Tennis, they may even ride horses or even motorbikes, but one day they will be behind the wheel of the family car.
We all know that 15 year olds have tons of enthusiasm, loads of confidence and very few skills. They have accidents for a very logical reason, they have no opportunity to practice. All of this gives us parents, and members of the community, a feeling of apprehension as we look to the future.
Getting children involved in Junior Karting means that they will be taught to drive well, under strict supervision and within a framework of rigid rules. Children learn how to really drive and love it in a totally safe environment. They learn to take their enthusiasm out on the track, not the road. Getting children into Karting is one of the best investments for a childs future that you can make.
Great Skills
Kart Racing is one of the safest forms of all motorsport. It is the ideal way for young people, in particular to gain a host of skills in a safe and controlled environment. Skills such as concentration, patience, confidence not to mention excellent driving skills.
After some training and experience it is common to hear children as young as ten talking about understeer, oversteer, cornering lines, braking points, brake lockup - all things that adult drivers should, but frequently don't, know about.
Another very useful skill that young people learn is how to look after and maintain the machine that they drive. Basic items like tyre pressures, refuelling, lubricating, cleaning and brake adjusting through to what actually happens in the motor. These too are all good skills for the future.
When taking part in kart racing always:
- Enjoy yourselves, you may not win every time
- Race within the rules
- Work at achieving your personal best
- Respect the officials
- Respect your competitors and their supporters
- Be a gracious winner or dignified loser
- Race hard but race fair
